Welcome

Having a website seems a thoroughly egotistical thing to do. But I’m told I’ll sell more novels this way, so here goes: Welcome to my website!

As I am much better known as a cook, restaurateur and food writer than a novelist, I thought the site had better also have links to my other activities, past and present, with a blog, and the opportunity for you to tell me what you think. Of course I’d prefer unmitigated praise but I guess my novels will get better if you tell me the truth!

The Gardner Book Jacket
Novels
I’ve always, always wanted to write novels, but did not dare confess the fact, even to my husband. I satisfied the writing bug by writing cookbooks and journalism (and poems which no-one sees) until in my early fifties when I decided to sell my business, stop writing about food, and write that novel.

My first novel, Leaving Patrick , appeared in 1995, followed by Sisters in 2001, and A Lovesome Thing in 2004, all published by Penguin. A Lovesome Thing got caught up in the Penguin distribution fiasco. Happily another publisher, Transita, who especially like books by “older women” now publish it as The Gardener.
